24mm Manila Rope Barriers with Brass Hooks and Endplates
used to good effect around his garden decking.
Andy Louth of Scarborough, North Yorkshire has created a barrier near the top of these steps using a 24mm Manila Barrier Rope with Chrome Hooks and Endplates. It
complements the stairway nicely, we think.
Curtain Tie Backs (Hold Backs)
"We are very pleased with our tie back." Roy Brain used 24mm
Synthetic Hemp Rope with No-Stem,
Round, Blacksmith Brackets to make these curtain tie-backs.
Christine Wright of Dursley, Gloucestershire bought 2x 8mm Cotton
Rope Curtain Tie Backs (a.k.a. Hold Backs), made to order to be 1 metre in length. "I am very pleased with them" says Christine!
For Plants
"My 38mm drill did not quite do it for the 36mm rope, but a bit of work with a circular rasp made the holes big enough. The intent is to grow honeysuckle, wisteria, etc, along the rope. Looks great so far."
Thanks to Colin for these photos of the trellising he made from 36mm Synthetic Hemp Rope with a Manrope Knot at one end.
Claire Belcher has used some 12mm Natural Hemp
Rope to create pathways for her plants up a post and along a fence. We think they look lovely!
Janet & Alan of Buckinghamshire, sent us this photograph of the 24mm Manila Rope bought from RopeandSplice.co.uk.
In their own words:
"It has been rigged between chestnut poles supporting hazel trellises. In front is a solar powered granite water feature and steel obelisk.
Climbing plants (passion flower and clematis) are now in place to grow up and across, but the full effect should become apparent this summer.
We're very pleased with the end result which has distinctly improved that part of our garden, concealing the neighbour's fencing with natural
products at a reasonable cost."
Jane Spindler of Bristol sent us these pictures of 36mm Manila Rope with Galvanised Thimble Hard Eye Splices on both ends used
as a bridge between a pergola and a fence, with the aim of having wisteria and clematis grow from one to the other.
Joe Allen of Ponteland, Northumbria send us this picture of how he used the rope bought from Rope and Splice.
In his own words: "Last year my wife and I had to have removed, from a raised bed in our garden, some overgrown conifers that had been damaged
by the winter snows. We decided to replace them with a bed of roses in front of a split-bamboo screen for privacy. We also decided to add
interest by planting a selection of clematis, jasmine and honeysuckle to grow up round wooden poles connected by rope for which we purchased 8
metres of your 24mm synthetic hemp rope. The rope is attached to the backs of the poles using 22 mm copper plumbing saddle clips.
Please find attached, as requested, a photograph of the arrangement. It looks rather bare and untidy at the moment but we look forward to
seeing it with everything in bloom later in the season."
Garden Features

a Soft Eye Splice and Whipped End used to decorate his garden wishing well!
Louis Maule-Cole of Crawley, Sussex has used some 24mm Synthetic
Hemp Rope to create a handle for his garden bucket water feature. The left Manrope Knot was tied by Rope and Splice and the right
Manrope Knot was tied by Mr Maule-Cole.
Ben Taylor-Roberts of Salisbury, Wiltshire bought 4 metres of
16mm Manila Rope with a Manrope Knot one end and White Whipping on the other (REMEMBER Manila rope shrinks in length by as much as 10% when wet so only install taut if pre-shrunk or you might snap a post!).
In his own words: "Thank you for the length of rope that you made up for me a couple of weeks ago - it was excellent. I had it made to make a
manual support and "hold-back" for my aged god mothers garden. She has fallen down a couple of times whilst picking her raspberries - and she
is delighted with the new arrangement which both gives her a support and holds the plants back. (See enclosed photo).
It is not a brilliant picture I'm afraid - but at least it shows how your rope can be utilised! My godmother is most impressed anyway.
Many thanks!

Parrot Swings, Perches & Nets
Some happy customers sent us these pictures of their parrots Wingnut and Orinoco enjoying their swings created with Back Spliced on Itself 24mm 100% Natural
Hemp Rope from Rope and Splice.
These perches are now available premade!
"Thank you for the prompt delivery of 14m of 8mm natural hemp rope.
It took me just over an hour to fashion it into a scramble net for our parrots. I cut the rope into 1m lengths and knotted each end to prevent
fraying. I then made a grid and lashed the rope together using sisal string, securing each lashing with reef knots (this process made the net
less bulky and saved on the amount of rope I needed to use). The birds will almost certainly have fun untying the reef knots but if they do I
can just re-tie them. As birds are very light (they have hollow bones) this lashed version is well up to taking their weight.
Attached are a couple of photos of 2 of our Conures, Titania (the darker bird) and Oberon enjoying the grid. Conures are very active little
parrots that love to climb and investigate new things.
Best wishes
Karen Chudley"

Filling Gaps Between Floorboards
A happy customer unravelled and took apart some 12mm 100%
Natural Hemp Rope to make rope of smaller diameters. They then laid this between floorboards to fill the gaps.
In their own words:
"It's a lot of work as the gaps are never the same width, each one is different and they keep changing from one side of the wall to the other
too. So you constantly have to adjust the thickness of the rope. I have the feeling I'm quite an expert in hemp rope now.. :-) As you can see
we did two bedrooms like this (one red, the other stripy red). The result is excellent as it looks nice, and works perfectly. The boards don't
creak at all any more, dust stays under the boards and as the rope can move a bit with the boards it is less likely to fall through as bits of
wood or wood filler would do."
Please see this eHow article for step-by-step
instructions on how to fill gaps between floorboards.
